VMware Announces That HP Is New Member of Preferred Partner Program

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 11, 2001 -- VMware, Inc., the leader in virtualization software for Intel computers, announced today that Hewlett-Packard Company has joined the VMware Preferred Hardware Partner Program.

The Preferred Hardware Partner Program provides a way for VMware and its hardware partners to test and jointly market and sell solutions based on VMware software and partner hardware. Customers benefit by having a variety of certified hardware platforms on which to implement their VMware solutions.

Based on patent-pending virtualization technology, VMware products allow enterprises to drastically reduce the total cost of ownership of their computing infrastructure. Specifically, by running multiple independent operating systems on a single physical machine, enterprises can consolidate servers, decrease management costs, and increase reliability.

VMware's server products offer enterprise IT customers a powerful server consolidation and simplified management solution that fits easily into their existing environments. In addition, VMware sells an award-winning desktop product, VMware Workstation.

"Our relationships with industry-leading hardware vendors, such as HP, help us extend the reach of our enterprise solutions," said Diane Greene, co-founder, president, and CEO of VMware.

"As part of the Preferred Hardware Partner Program, HP will work with VMware to offer one of the most cost-effective, flexible computing infrastructures," said Nigel Ball, vice-president and general manager, HP e-Services Partner Division. "VMware will provide optimized performance and server density for our customers using superior virtualization software running on HP NetServers with NT and Linux."
