VMware Workstation Wins JOLT Product Excellence Award and Is Inducted Into “Hall of Fame”
The “Oscars of Software Development Industry” Names VMware Workstation to Its Hall of Fame and Recognizes Workstation in the Utilities Category
PALO ALTO, Calif., April 28, 2008 – VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, has announced that VMware Workstation has been named to the JOLT Hall of Fame and has won the JOLT Product Excellence Award in the highly competitive “utilities” category. The winners were announced at the 18th annual JOLT Awards Ceremony held at the Software Development West 2008 Conference and Expo. The induction into the JOLT Hall of Fame is a particularly special honor, reserved for products whose high-quality has been proven and maintained over time. VMware Workstation joins recent JOLT Hall of Fame inductees including IBM developerWorks (2006), Microsoft Visual Studio Professional (2005) and Macrovision Installshield (2004).
Dr. Dobb’s prestigious JOLT Awards recognize those products that have "Jolted the industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier, and more efficient.” Winners are selected from among hundreds of qualified nominations by an esteemed panel of judges consisting of industry insiders, columnists, and technology leaders.
“Our annual awards highlight only the most innovative products that offer solid value, performance and capabilities,” said Amber Ankerholz, JOLT Award Manager. “No products matched VMware Workstation’s ability to boost IT organizations’ infrastructure, increase productivity and lower IT costs. VMware Workstation advances the state of the art in virtualization technology.”
Introduced more than eight years ago and used by millions, VMware Workstation is the most advanced virtualization software for desktop and laptop computers, allowing users to run the broadest selection of operating systems on a single PC. VMware Workstation also enables pre-production testing of desktops and servers on virtual machines, rehosting of legacy applications, rapid provisioning and resetting of multi-tier environments for simplified and accelerated application development and testing.
“The JOLT Product Excellence Award is a distinct honor because it recognizes what our customers care about most—a proven, high-quality platform that they can count on,” said Jeff Jennings, vice president, desktop products and solutions, VMware. “VMware Workstation continues to prove itself as a must-have product for thousands of IT professionals and software developers who rely on VMware’s desktop virtualization technology every day.”
