VMware eröffnet AWS EU-Region in Stockholm mit neuen Möglichkeiten 
für Cloud Migration, Kubernetes-Enterprise-Funktionen sowie 
Mandantenfähigkeiten für Managed Service Provider

 

VMworld Europe 2019 – Barcelona / Zürich, 7. November 2019 – VMware hat heute auf der VMworld Europe 2019 VMware Cloud on AWS für die Region AWS EU (Stockholm) angekündigt. Damit steigt die Gesamtzahl der verfügbaren Regionen in Europa auf fünf und weltweit auf 17 in etwas mehr als zwei Jahren an. Darüber hinaus gab VMware neue Funktionen für seinen Hybrid-Cloud-Service bekannt, damit Kunden und Partner die konsistente Infrastruktur und den Betrieb von VMware Cloud on AWS optimal ausschöpfen können.

Sie ermöglicht es Kunden in Skandinavien, VMware Cloud on AWS als Teil ihrer Cloud-Strategie zu nutzen. Unsere Innovationen umfassen zusätzliche Funktionen, die VMware Cloud on AWS auszeichnen. Kunden können nun ihre Anwendungen mit integrierter Kubernetes-Unterstützung migrieren und modernisieren.“

VMware Cloud on AWS: Modernisierung von Anwendungen mit Kubernetes

Unternehmen, die Container und Kubernetes auf VMware Cloud on AWS betreiben möchten, können bereits heute mit VMware PKS starten. In Kombination mit VMware Cloud on AWS sind sie in der Lage, Kubernetes-Cluster schnell zu erstellen und zu skalieren. Außerdem lassen sich Störfälle bei Anwendungen minimieren, indem inkompatible Updates einfach zurückgesetzt werden. Mit Unterstützung durch das VMware-Expertenteam „Kubernetes Architect Team“ können Kunden eine auf ihre Bedürfnisse zugeschnittene Kubernetes-Plattform entwerfen, bereitstellen und eigene Mitarbeiter auf den Betrieb einer nativen Cloud-Infrastruktur vorbereiten. Zukünftig wird es Kunden von VMware Cloud on AWS möglich sein, Project Pacific zu nutzen, und so VMware vSphere in eine native Kubernetes-Plattform umzuwandeln.

Migration von Anwendungen auf VMware Cloud on AWS führt zu niedrigeren Gesamtkosten

Unternehmen nutzen VMware Cloud on AWS, um das Wachstum zu unterstützen, die digitale Transformation voranzutreiben, Entwicklungszyklen zu verbessern und Kosten zu optimieren. Die Herausforderungen bei einer Einführung bestehen hier vor allem darin, Migrationszeit, -kosten und -risiken zu reduzieren. Mit Funktionen wie VMware HCX, VMware vMotion, L2 Stretched Networks und VMware NSX / AWS Direct Connect Integration erfüllt VMware die Migrationsanforderungen solcher Kunden. Die neuen Funktionen der VMware HCX Cloud Migration sind:

  • OS-unterstützte Migration: Nicht-vSphere-Workloads, wie beispielsweise Anwendungen, die in RedHat OpenStack/KVM- und Microsoft Hyper-V-Umgebungen ausgeführt werden, lassen sich nach VMware Cloud on AWS migrieren. Das ebnet Kunden einen einfachen Weg, Workloads nach VMware Cloud on AWS umzuwandeln und neu zu platzieren.
  • VMware HCX Cross-SDDC (Region zu Region) und Inter-Cloud-Migration: Sie ermöglicht jetzt die Migration auf Knopfdruck und die Erweiterung von Netzwerken sowie die Vernetzung zwischen VMware Cloud on AWS SDDCs, die in verschiedenen AWS-Regionen laufen. Durch die Möglichkeit, Netzwerke zwischen Regionen zu erweitern, können Kunden Richtlinien und Konfigurationen konsistenter machen. Diese Funktion umfasst die Option, Workloads zwischen anderen VMware-basierten Clouds und VMware Cloud on AWS zu verbinden und zu verschieben.

A Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study(1) commissioned by VMware and conducted by Forrester Consulting showed a composite organization saved 59 percent of operational costs in the cloud, versus the equivalent capacity on-premises. Additionally, the following risk-adjusted present value quantified benefits are representative of those experienced by the companies interviewed: 

  • Avoided application redesign, totaling savings of $2.7M 
  • Reduced labor hours for operations, saving $1.2M

New Multi-Tenancy Capabilities for Managed Service Providers

VMware Cloud Director service is a new solution that will enable VMware Cloud on AWS managed service providers (MSPs) to better address the requirements of small- and medium-sized businesses. VMware Cloud Director brings the proven multi-tenant capabilities of VMware vCloud Director to VMware Cloud on AWS, allowing MSPs to share VMware Cloud on AWS instances and the overall costs, across multiple tenants. VMware Cloud Director service will provide cross-site networking capabilities with existing vCloud Director infrastructures thereby creating a hyper-distributed provider management plane. Cloud providers will have the ability to slice and dice VMware Cloud on AWS SDDC resources, and have fine-grained control of resource allocation and consumption. Cloud providers will also be able to offer customers with a custom branded user experience.

William Hill plc is one of the world’s leading betting and gaming companies. “Cloud is at the heart of our business; it’s the only way we can transform and achieve our business objectives. The UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the UK’s biggest public service department, responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. “Three years ago, much of our IT was outsourced and we were suffering under monolithic contracts with 12 to 24 month delivery cycles, limited flexibility, and no control. Januar 2020 endet, verfügbar sein: VMware Cloud on AWS-Verfügbarkeit in der AWS EU (Stockholm) Region, VMware PKS mit VMware Cloud on AWS, HCX OS Assisted Migration, HCX Cross-SDDC und intercloud Migration. Voraussichtlich wird auch der VMware Cloud Director-Service im vierten Quartal zur Verfügung stehen.
