Prestigious Award Recognizes VMware Technology Network (VMTN) Subscription for its Innovation and Technological Excellence

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 3, 2006 —VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry-standard systems, today announced that the VMware Technology Network (VMTN) Subscription received CMP's Software Development Jolt Product Excellence award in the testing tools category for "jolting" the industry by helping to create faster, easier and more efficient software.

"This has been an exciting year for the Jolts," said Rosalyn Lum, technical editor for Dr. Dobb's Journal, a trusted resource for professional software developers, managers and architects. "Not only did we see an unprecedented number of nominations in categories representing every phase of the software development cycle, we also found an exploding richness of features bundled in today's products adding to the complexity to today's software development tools and to the judging process."

Lum continued: “And, there were an equal number of new stars that have quickly moved to address the needs that this very complexity in the development environment has created. The winners reflect that innovation is alive and well in both large established companies as well as new bright and upcoming companies."

VMTN Subscription provides a consistent virtualization platform for development and test that is designed to increase the productivity and efficiency across the software development lifecycle, reduce cost and complexity and improve software quality.

"VMTN Subscription, as well as the VMTN developer community and virtual appliances, has proven to be an indispensable solution for developers to drive automation, increased efficiency and much more flexible and manageable development and test environments,” said Dan Chu, senior director of developer products at VMware. “More than four million users have adopted VMware virtual infrastructure for their computing environments, and VMTN Subscription packages an optimal combination of all the products that developers and testers will need in a powerful, cost-effective subscription bundle."

VMTN Subscription provides a powerful suite of VMware products, support and upgrades in a convenient, low-cost annual subscription of $299 per user. VMTN Subscription includes VMware Workstation for individual developer productivity, VMware GSX Server and a developer version of VMware ESX Server with Virtual SMP for team collaboration and VMware P2V Assistant for migrating physical systems to virtual machines.
