VMware Supports Microsoft .NET Developers with Powerful Development Tool

VMware to Give Away $300,000 Worth of its Popular Workstation Product to .NET Developers at Microsoft Tech Ed 2001

Palo Alto, Calif., June 15, 2001 -- VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtualization software for Intel computers, announced today that it will give away 1,000 copies of its popular VMware Workstation to Microsoft .NET developers and other attendees at the Microsoft Tech Ed 2001, which runs from June 17-June 20 in Atlanta. Total value of the giveaway promotion is $300,000.

Attendees who visit the VMware booth (#636) at 4:00 Sunday June 17th and at 12:00 PM June 18th, 19th and 20th have a chance to get their free copy, which lists at $299. Distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

This special Microsoft Tech Ed 2001 free copy of VMware Workstation will help developers get the most out of Microsoft .NET. VMware Workstation enables developers to streamline the development, testing, and deployment of applications in today's complex computing environment, resulting in faster time to deployment, higher quality, and lower cost.

The version of VMware Workstation that will be given away at Tech Ed 2001 runs on Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems, and installs easily, just like a standard Windows application. Each virtual machine is the equivalent of a full PC, right down to the BIOS. Users will be able to:

  • Instantly restore suspended VMware sessions -- no waiting for systems to boot
  • Rollback any changes to an environment with Undoable Disks
  • Nonpersistent disks provide automatic rollback of changes to an environment -- ideal for repetitive QA testing
