PC Magazine Names VMware Workstation Best Utility of 2003

Largest Technology Publication Bestows Top Honors on Powerful Desktop Virtualization Software

PALO ALTO, Calif., February 18, 2004 — VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry-standard systems, today announced that PC Magazine has named VMware Workstation the best utility of 2003.

"VMware Workstation is the Superman of virtual machine software. It's able to build complex, enterprise-level virtual networks with a few mouse clicks and is capable of running virtual SCSI disks and real USB-based hardware. An optional tabbed interface switches among multiple guest machines quickly," noted Edward Mendelson, contributing editor at PC Magazine. "Only VMware Workstation has a time-saving 'snapshot' feature that restores a virtual machine to an earlier condition while an application is actually running. VMware Workstation supports vastly more complex virtual networks and lets you modify them through an easily navigable control panel."

Since its introduction in 1999, VMware Workstation has revolutionized software development by dramatically simplifying and accelerating the way software is developed and deployed. Users run multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux, simultaneously and independently on a single PC in fully networked, portable virtual machines. Today VMware Workstation is used by more than 2.2 million people worldwide for software development, testing, deployment, application compatibility, operating system migration, training, sales demos, help desk support and technical support.

"We're honored that PC Magazine has named VMware Workstation the best utility of 2003," said Michael Mullany, vice president of marketing at VMware. "As we move to a world where multiple operating systems are a fact of life, Workstation will be there to provide huge time-savings for technical professionals who need to do more with less."

Past industry recognition of VMware Workstation includes the CNET Editor's Choice award, Delphi Informant Readers' Choice award, Linux Magazine Editor's Choice award, PC Magazine Linux award, PC Magazine Technical Excellence award, Software Development Magazine Jolt Product Excellence award, Software Development Magazine Jolt Productivity award, Visual Studio Magazine Editor's Choice award and Windows & .NET Magazine Readers' Choice award.
