Honeywell to Leverage Bit9’s Application Control and Allowlisting Solution to Combat Untrustworthy Software
08.07.12 – Waltham, Mass. – Bit9, the global leader in Advanced Threat Protection, today announced that Honeywell Process Solutions is integrating Parity, Bit9’s advanced threat protection platform, to combat advanced security threats against the critical infrastructure systems managed by its Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) control system platform. Under terms of an OEM agreement, Bit9 is providing Honeywell with a comprehensive solution—including application control and allowlisting—that is a key component of Honeywell’s evolving cyber-security arsenal that protects against intrusions by permitting only applications and executable files that are considered safe and on the “approved list” to run, while blocking all others.
“Experion platform users want increased protection from cyber threats, but without increasing the management overhead of the system. Application control and allowlisting are valuable tools for enhancing security without requiring additional resources,” said Mike Baldi, chief cyber security architect for Honeywell Process Solutions. “We performed a thorough review of application allowlisting solutions against Industrial Control Systems requirements and needs. We selected Bit9’s solution because it best met the unique security requirements of ICS.”
Process control systems manage critical infrastructure operations ranging from chemical plants and refineries to water treatment systems and nuclear power plants. Cities, states and nations depend on the ongoing integrity and reliability of these vital systems, which is why responsible industrial system operators are increasingly improving their security defense to safeguard against attacks from nation states, hacktivists and organized crime.
Doug Cahill, vice president of business development for Bit9, said: “Honeywell is renowned for its innovative global leadership in process control. We are pleased Honeywell has chosen Bit9 to provide the advanced threat protection to ensure the safe operation of these important systems and protect them from the potentially devastating effects of malicious intrusions and untrustworthy software.”
