VMware VirtualCenter Named Most Promising Technology of the Year

CNET Bestows Top Honors on VMware for Second Consecutive Year

PALO ALTO, Calif., September 29, 2004 — VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry-standard systems, today announced that VMware VirtualCenter was named the Most Promising Technology of the Year at the CNET Networks UK Technology Awards ceremony. This marks the second consecutive year CNET has bestowed top honors on VMware. Last year, CNET named VMware ESX Server the Enterprise Product of the Year.

The Most Promising Technology of the Year award recognizes the technology innovation that judges consider likely to have the most profound effect on the way companies conduct business. This includes having the potential to enable new business models, changing the way business is conducted, realizing efficiencies that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to attain and saving significant amounts of money.

"The Most Promising Technology category was extremely competitive," commented Matt Loney, editor of ZDNet UK and member of the CNET awards judging panel. "While there were some great entries, the judges felt that VMware VirtualCenter has already shown enough promise to merit the award. In its entry we saw some truly exceptional technology foresight and excellent references from customers. The judging panel had real faith that VirtualCenter will become embedded in the data center in years to come."

VMware VirtualCenter creates a more responsive data center, enabling faster reconfiguration and reallocation of applications and services, resulting in instant provisioning of servers and decreased user downtime saving time, effort and cost.

"We're extremely happy that VirtualCenter has won this award," said Jane Rimmer, director of EMEA marketing for VMware. "VirtualCenter is the control panel for our customers' virtual infrastructure and lies at the heart of their business operations which allows customers to get the absolute maximum out of their computing resources."

The CNET Awards judging panel, made up of experienced IT directors, industry leaders, market analysts and senior editors from CNET publications, chose VMware VirtualCenter based on the growing importance of virtual infrastructure in data centers, its rapid adoption in the market and strong customer support for the entry.
