VMware Announces Cutting-Edge Innovations to Supercharge Malaysia’s Economic Transformation

New innovations will accelerate transformation across Malaysia’s industries and workforce, putting the country on a strong footing in its journey to reach Asian Tiger status

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – October 16, 2019 – VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), a leading innovator in enterprise software, today announced new and expanded offerings across cloud, modern applications and digital workspaces, laying the foundation for organizations in Malaysia to grow alongside the country’s stunning economic progress. VMware’s new innovations will enable organizations to build, run and manage workloads on a consistent infrastructure across clouds, data centers, and edge locations; transform the way software is build, run and managed on Kubernetes; while deepening employee engagement to unleash productivity – key capabilities that enable them to capitalize on the opportunities unlocked by Malaysia’s innovation-led economic growth.

Driven by the wide-ranging reforms implemented by the government in 2018, Malaysia’s economy has advanced noticeably within one year, moving nine spots ahead to place 15th among 190 economies worldwide in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 Report (1).  The country’s economic improvement is set to grow further following the government’s plan to allocate RM 210 million from 2019 to 2021 to support the enterprise transition and migration to Industry 4.0 (2)  and the rolling out of 5G services across 32 sites in six states over a six-month period starting from October 1, 2019 (3).  Against the backdrop of Malaysia’s continued economic success and the government’s future-forward vision, VMware’s enhanced portfolio is set to help accelerate the country’s transformation towards becoming a high-performing Asian Tiger economy.

“Malaysia’s stellar economic performance and its focus on fostering innovation for the future represents a tremendous opportunity for ambitious organizations hungry for growth. With the country’s pivot towards Industry 4.0 and the imminent arrival of commercial 5G, digital transformation will become a critical enabler now with technology underpinning the growth of Malaysia’s future economy,” said Devan Parinpanayagam, Country Manager, VMware Malaysia. “With VMware’s expanded portfolio, organizations will have access to cutting-edge innovations that will help transform the way they build, run, manage and protect their business across cloud, modern applications and the digital workspace with powerful new capabilities that will help drive their growth alongside Malaysia’s flourishing economy.”

VMware’s new innovations will help customers simplify and protect the way their organizations manage systems and applications, build modern applications, manage and measure the value delivered to employees. New advancements include:

• Consistent hybrid cloud operations and infrastructure across data center, cloud and edge:

o VMware vRealize Operations 8.0 – optimized for the new world of hybrid cloud operations. It will deliver new and enhanced capabilities for self-driving hybrid cloud and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) operations as well as multi-cloud monitoring. The latest release will deliver Intent-Driven continuous performance optimization, more efficient capacity management, intelligent remediation and integrated compliance and configuration.

o VMware Cloud Foundation – enables a hybrid cloud platform that spans all major public clouds – AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud – and more than 60 VMware Cloud Verified partners worldwide.

• Run Modern Apps Leveraging Kubernetes:

o VMware Tanzu – new portfolio of products and services to help enterprises build modern applications, run Kubernetes with consistency across environments, and manage all their Kubernetes clusters from a single control point. This includes a technology preview of Project Pacific—focused on transforming VMware vSphere into a Kubernetes native platform in a future release; and VMware Tanzu Mission Control—a single point of control from which customers will manage all their Kubernetes clusters regardless of where they run.

• Industry-first concierge services to enhance employee experiences from hire to retire:

o Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub – the central launchpad for employees to more securely access apps, workflows and notifications and connect with colleagues – now enables a virtual assistant, powered by IBM Watson Assistant, that users can interact with using natural language processing (NLP) or text. Workspace ONE is the first digital workspace platform to enable an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered virtual assistant.

• Automated, Scalable Software-Defined Networking & Security:

o VMware NSX-T – the industry’s only network and security platform, delivered completely in software, offering the full range of L2-L7 services for workloads running on all types of infrastructure – virtual machines, containers, physical servers and both private and public clouds. The enhanced solution further strengthens the platform’s intrinsic security capabilities and delivers expanded scalability, cloud-native support, and operational simplicity.

The rollout of Malaysia’s Industry 4.0 initiatives, coupled with VMware solutions, will unlock possibilities for enterprises to digitally transform their operations, improve productivity, and adopt new business models to hone their competitive edge in today’s digital economy.
